Get the Lead Out
Affordable Financing for Lead Paint Abatement
The Get the Lead Out (GTLO) loan program provides affordable financing to help homeowners and nonprofits remove hazardous lead paint from their properties. MassHousing offers GTLO in collaboration with the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC), the Department of Public Health (DPH), local rehabilitation agencies (LRAs) and community lenders across Massachusetts.
Get the Lead Out Loan Program Features
- Low- and no-interest rate loans available, depending on borrower
- Maximum loan amounts: $30,000-$45,000, depending on property type
- Flexible underwriting guidelines; no appraisal required
- Loans serviced by MassHousing
Eligibility
To be eligible for a GTLO loan, borrowers must
- Be the home's
- Owner-occupant
- Investor-owner renting to income eligible tenants
- Nonprofit owner renting to income eligible tenants
- De-lead a 1- to 4-family home, including condominiums
- Meet income limits, which vary by county
Additional Features
- Closing costs and fees for owner-occupied homes are paid by MassHousing
- Loans for owner occupants are deferred; no monthly payments are required
- Project must be completed six months from the date of closing
- Relocation funds are available
- Borrowers may apply for a Lead Paint Credit from the Mass. Department of Revenue
